Vincent van Gogh was born in the Netherlands in 1853 and was a painter and draftsman. As a child he attended the village school and later a boarding school. Despite good grades, failed he graduated from school and began training in an art shop. After completing his training, he was transferred to London and later to Paris. His employer fired him after some problems and he worked everywhere. He taught himself to draw and moved to Brussels to come into contact with painters. In the following years he traveled a lot and suffered from delusions and depression. Vincent van Gogh was admitted to a mental hospital and painted as a therapy. During a severe seizure, he tried to swallow poisonous paints. Then van Gogh moved to Auvers and fell into a creative frenzy. He painted 80 paintings and 60 drawings in 70 days. In July he shot himself in the stomach and died of the consequences two days later. Vincent van Gogh painted a total of 864 paintings and many drawings. His works only became famous after his death.
