Prussian State Railways refers to those railway companies that were owned or under the administration of the State of Prussia. There was no independent railway administration, rather the individual railway companies were each subject to the supervision of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, later by the separate Ministry of Public Works. The official designation of the Prussian railways was "Königlich Preußische Staatseisenbahn" (KPSt.E.) until 1896, then due to the merger with the Hessian Railway until the end of the First World War "Königlich Prussische und Großherzoglich Hessische Staatseisenbahn" (KPuGHSt.E.) , and finally "Prussian State Railways" until nationalization in 1920.
