The articulated multiple unit
The 5 G stamp shows the articulated multiple unit VT 10 501 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. Built in 1954 by Linke-Hoffman-Busch in Salzgitter, equipped with MAN engines. In 1952, for the German Transport Exhibition in Munich, two seven-part articulated drive trains, the VT 10 501 as a day train and the VT 10 551 as a sleeping car train, which later also ran as an eight-unit train, appeared. For the drive, four standard truck engines of 210 hp each were installed in each articulated multiple unit.
The diesel-hydraulic locomotive
The 30 G postage stamp shows the German Federal Railroad's class 218 diesel-hydraulic locomotive with 2,500 hp. They represent the most modern conception of single-engine diesel locomotives for the use of heavy passenger and freight trains. The serial installation of a hydrodynamic brake made it possible to increase the maximum speed to 140 km / h. The 12-cylinder engines from MAN and Maybach-Mercedes are installed.
