Variants are unintentional misprints of all kinds. Variants differ from the "regular" postage stamp in the color , the paper or the position of the watermark .

• Imitation: reverse imprint of the original stamp image on the back.
• Fancy print run: stamps with one or more colors missing.
• Double image printing: Images or fonts appear twice.
• Plate flaws: Deviations from the brand image caused by a fault on the printing plate.
• Plaster prints: caused by foreign bodies that adhere to the plate and are also printed.
• Toothings: The bow was not toothed in the intended places but in other places.
