Aden is a city in Yemen. From 1967 to 1990 it was the capital of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen . Aden has about 737,800 inhabitants. The old town is located in an old volcanic crater and is therefore called Kraytar . Aden is a port city on the gold of Aden. Less than 200 km to the west is the Bab al-Mandab strait, the strait that connects the Gulf of Aden with the Red Sea. The port is dominated by the 517 meter high Jebel Shamsan volcano.
