The XIII. The 1980 Winter Olympics were held in Lake Placid, USA. In front of a home crowd, the USA ice hockey team unexpectedly won a gold medal.
Eric Heiden won all five speed skating competitions, each time breaking the Olympic record. Hanni Wenzel won two gold and one silver medals in the three alpine ski competitions.
