The two stamps were issued on August 3, 1978 for the International Year of the Child (1979). The stamps have a face value of CHF 30 and CHF 50 respectively and bear the black imprint of the United Nations emblem for the Year of the Child.

Both values bear the black imprint of the new country name & ldquo; R & eacute; publique F & eacute; d & eacute ; rale Islamique des Comores & ldquo ;. The old country name has been bared out three times.

Die Postage stamps for the Year of the Child were among the most popular motifs worldwide in their year of publication and were collected in all major industrial nations. This UNICEF project was created with the intention of giving more attention to the needs of children around the world. In 1976 the project was approved by the UN General Assembly and in 1979 the year of the child was finally declared.
