Margaret Hilda Thatcher was born on October 13, 1925 in Grantham, Lincolnshire born.
In 1959, Thatcher was elected as a Conservative candidate for the House of Commons. In 1961 she won the position of Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Social Insurance. In 1970, Thatcher became Minister of Culture and Science in Edward Heath's cabinet. In the general election of May 3, 1979, Thatcher led the Conservative Party to victory, replacing James Callaghan's Prime Minister.
Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1979 to 1990. She was in office longer than any other prime minister in the 20th century.
She died on April 8, 2013 at the age of 87 from complications from a stroke.
