The "Mint Austria" is the mint of the Austrian coins. It has been a stock corporation owned by the Austrian National Bank since 1989. Until December 31, 1988, the right to mint coins lay directly with the state. Until 2002, the "Austrian Mint" was solely responsible for the production and issuance of the Schilling coins.

The motifs of the coins were selected from the fields of flowers, buildings and famous personalities from the history of Austria. A national committee selected the appropriate motifs based on these criteria.
