Product information "Civil War 1864, 4th series - stamped foil sheets, USA"
It is the fourth of five gigantic double blocks that the US Post presents to us in its "American Civil War" series. On the front a wonderful pad with the two special stamps "Siege of Petersburg" and "Battle in Mobile Bay". On the back a small sheet block with a total of 10 stamps and an explanatory historical text. The stamps were canceled with the first day cancellation of July 30, 2014.

Six self-adhesive stamps "Forever", Siege of Petersburg (June 15, 1864 - April 3, 1865). The Siege of Petersburg was a military operation during the American Civil War that took place from June 9, 1867 to March 25, 1865 east, south, and west of Petersburg, Virginia. The term siege of Petersburg has become common, although Petersburg was neither surrounded by the opposing troops nor cut off from any supplies. The campaign also did not consist exclusively of attacks against Petersburg. After nine months of trench warfare, the Northern Virginia Army could no longer hold its overstretched and stretched lines, which led to the collapse of the frontline and evasive action during the final Appomattox campaign. After Cold Harbor, the campaign showed again what it should look like fifty years later in the arrows of the western front of the First World War.

Six self-adhesive stamps "Forever", naval battle in Mobile Bay (August 15, 1864 - April 3, 1865). The Battle of Mobile Bay was a naval battle during the American Civil War in which the Union managed to capture an important Confederate supply base during the Atlanta Campaign. The naval battle itself took place on August 5th, 1864, the remaining time up to August 23rd included the siege of the Confederate Forests of Fort Gaines and Fort Morgan. Mobile Bay was the penultimate port that was under the control of the Confederation. The city of Mobile itself remained in the hands of the Confederates until the Battle of Fort Blakely in April 1865, but was cut off. The Atlanta campaign ended successfully, not least because of the interruption of supplies via Mobile Bay and Alabama. The victorious campaign was decisive for the re-election of Lincoln in 1864 against the negotiable McClellan and for the final victory of the Union in 1865.

On the front side, next to the self-adhesive labels, there is an English text on those two battles.

The back shows Union soldiers in a camp with a cannon as well as a quote from General Ulysses S. Grant or from soldiers and lines from a spiritual.
