Product information "Civil War 1861, 1st series - USA, double sheet mint never hinged"
US Post "Civil War 1861" stamp issue. This double block - on the front a block with two postage stamps and a beautiful border design and on the back a miniature sheet block with six pairs of stamps and explanatory text - is the philatelic reappraisal of the American Civil War. Mint.
On the front side we find detailed texts next to the two self-adhesive stamps, arranged in blocks, dedicated to the attack on Fort Sumter - the first battle of the American Civil War from December 12th to 13th. April 1881. The stamp shows the bombardment of Fort Sumter after a hand-colored steel engraving. The second value with the promising inscription "First Bull Run" documents the first major land battle during the American Civil War near the city of Manassas. The plan was to put a quick end to the war with a surprise attack on the then capital of the configured southern states, Richmount, Virginia. Which, in view of the bitter resistance, turned out to be a gross misjudgment. While this special stamp issue has met with great interest in the USA due to its historical background, collectors in the old world are fascinated by the special issue form: block in front and miniature sheets at the back.
