Beethoven block, block 2 stamped, catalog no. 315-319, Federal Republic

For the inauguration of the Beethoven Hall in Bonn, the probably most successful block edition of the Deutsche Bundespost was published on September 8, 1959. The Beethoven block contains 5 stamps on which composers are honored. The edge of the block also shows a handwritten note recording by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Block 2 of the Federal Republic honors the following composers:

* 20 Pfg. Ludwig van Beethoven, after whom the hall was named
* 10 Pfg. Georg Friedrich Händel
* 15 Pfg. Louis Spohr
* 25 Pfg. Joseph Haydn
* 40 Pfg. Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy
