This unusual compilation - 30 beautifully printed historical postage stamps from the USA from the time before the introduction of self-adhesive postage stamps - are dedicated to the daring men and of course women in their flying boxes. Historic double-deckers, fascinating flying boats and some postage stamps still produced using intaglio printing make this documentation something unique.
The oldest postage stamps date from 1928, issued for the International Civil Aviation Conference in Washington. As on the airmail stamp for 1949, they depict the Wright brothers' biplane - the world's first powered airplane.
We also find countless aviation pioneers on the brands, to whom we owe ingenious designs today, such as Sikorski, Glenn Curtiss and William Piper. The anniversary edition “50 Years of Airmail” also shows beautiful double-deckers.
Of course there is also an edition in honor of Charles Lindbergh , who flew over the Atlantic for the first time with his "Spirit of Saint Louis". Or, to get back to women, Harriet Quimby - unknown to us - a heroine in the USA who was the first woman to fly over the English Channel in 1912.
Plus Airmail classics with really great motifs like the airmail stamps from 1947, they show, among other things, a Lockheed Constellation in front of the Manhattan skyline, or a Boeing Stratocruiser in front of the Oakland Bridge in San Francisco.
