The capsule named & ldquo; Faith 7 & ldquo; orbited the earth a total of 22 times. On August 21, 1965, he took off on board the two-seat Gemini-5 capsule, together with Charles Conrad, on his second space flight and set a new long-term record of 190 hours.

On October 3, 1962, the fifth American astronaut took off on a nine-hour flight in his Mercury Atlas 8 rocket; three years later, on October 15, 1965, he flew with Thomas Stafford on board the Gemini-6A capsule on a 14-day space flight. Three years later, on October 11, 1968, he set off on an eleven-day space voyage on board Apollo 7, together with astronauts Eisele and Cunningham.
