Mohandas Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbanda. He was an Indian lawyer, resistance fighter, revolutionary, publicist, moral teacher and pacifist. He was the spiritual and political leader of the Indian independence movement in the 20th century. Before that, Ghandi had campaigned for racial segregation and equality for Indians in South Africa. On January 30, 1948, he was shot and killed in an assassination attempt.
