These four mint stamps from St. Thomas "65th Anniversary of the Death of Mahatma Gandhi" show portraits of Gandhi and his cities of life. All four stamps have a face value of Db 25,000.
Mohandas Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbanda. He was an Indian lawyer, resistance fighter, revolutionary, publicist, moral teacher and pacifist. He was the spiritual and political leader of the Indian independence movement in the 20th century. Before that, Ghandi had campaigned for racial segregation and equality for Indians in South Africa. On January 30, 1948, he was shot and killed in an assassination attempt.
