- Order number: 709347
This small sheet of stamps was published on June 22, 1984 on the 50th anniversary of the first direct mail flight of German Lufthansa from Europe to South America.
The sheetlet contains five airmail stamps of 10 Gs. as well as four decorative fields.
The stamps show the German Dornier Wal flying boat as well as a reproduction of the historical postmark dated April 28, 1934.
The four decorative fields complement the airmail history with depictions of the airship LZ 127 "Graf Zeppelin", the Catapult steamer "Westfalen", from which the first catapult mail was sent to South America, the flying boat Dornier Wal Do 18 "Aeolus" and the airship LZ 129 "Hindenburg".
The sheetlet bears the four first day special cancellations with the date of the first day (June 22, 1984) with a representation of the Lufthansa emblem.
This letter was sent by post on the anniversary day with the anniversary flight and was posted in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, by registered mail, documented by the registered slip on the back "ASUNCION - PARAGUAY / AEREO ".
A rare, really used, large-format registered letter with the usual "transport marks", very rare to find.
